Flower Power

The saplings came unstuck when the Parlotones played a cover of Koos Kombuis’s anthemic Lisa se Klavier and the previously well rooted audience jumped up like as if they were at a pop concert. What happened to the ironic detachment of the Parlotones’ white blend of Chenin, Gewürztraminer,Chardonnay and Viognier? Or did they think they were at a Die Antwoord concert in Bellville with all the flexing and stretching?

Idol worship or too much of a good thing?

Idols returns this year with an interesting twist. Last year, Sony boss and judge Dave Thompson joined the chicken run to Aussie, which left a vacancy for a judge.

His replacement? A celebrity judge in each of the five cities. So far, M-Net has released the name of only one celebrity judge. Tonight can reveal exclusively that The Parlotones’ Kahn Morbee is the celebrity judge for the Joburg auditions, which take place at the Sandton International Convention Centre on April 24.

Kirstenbosch: The Parlotones – Old Mutual Chelsea Flower Show Fundraising Concert

This year, Kirstenbosch will be sending its 35th exhibit to the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show. Over the past 34 years, the exhibit has won South Africa 30 gold medals and many additional awards. Since the exhibit lost its sponsor two years ago, Kirstenbosch is in need of funds to continue the tradition of exhibiting at the Chelsea Flower Show. Old Mutual has partnered with Kirstenbosch to organise this fundraising concert. All proceeds of the concert will go directly towards the Chelsea project fund. This extended Sunset Concert will take place on Monday 22nd March 2010 (Public Holiday) and will open with The Black Hotels 17h00 – 17h30 followed by The Parlotones until 19h00.
